Coronavirus and Your Career: What Will the New Normal Look Like?

Greetings,

We are now two months into this time of reflection and change, and it has had a variety of effects. I have found myself going crazy at times, but overall I feel grateful and lucky–this experience puts many things into perspective.

This is a time of change, and while change is inevitable, it never looks like we thought it would. Be safe, love your neighbors, hug your family, and give if you can.

I had to close my fitness studio business by government order on March 17, and we still do not have a reopening date. However, it has reminded me of all the non-financial rewards of my franchise business, including our raving fans and die hard customers who have become part of our family. We even have Zoom happy hours with our members to catch up on the latest. We continue to receive thanks and support from our member community, who say we have helped them survive mentally through the crisis while we run virtual classes and try to keep our employees on the payroll. It makes the financial sacrifices more bearable.

The level of financial support from the government has been unprecedented, and we are thankful to be able to take advantage of these programs. If you or someone you know need any assistance with these, do not hesitate to reach out to me for advice.

It’s also an excellent time to reflect on our life’s goals and objectives. I continue to be impressed by my franchise candidates and their ability to look at the long term view and take actions now, while there will be more opportunities and less competition as demand rises. There are positive things that are happening in franchising–if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

I am going to leave you with a few of my favorite quotes. The wisdom and insights of others helps me get through the day.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” — Mark Twain

“There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask ‘What if I fall?’ Oh but my darling, What if you fly?”– Erin Hanson

“Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy only when others are fearful.” — Warren Buffett

“Two roads diverged in a wood … I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost

“The time to buy is when there is blood in the streets.” — Baron Rothschild

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge And Controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.” – Bernice Johnson Reagon
