Greetings!
First and foremost, Happy New Year! It’s a new year already? I love the idea of starting a new year with a new direction, how about you?
New possibilities, a new start, new goals, new dreams, a new date to remember to write on those checks! One of my favorite things to do at the beginning of a fresh new year is to set my path for the year. The main question I ask is, “How am I going to meet my goal on a daily or weekly basis?”
According to U.S. News, about 80% of resolution-makers trade enthusiasm for disappointment by early February. Other research indicates that 30% don’t even make it that far. How disappointing that most of us set goals, don’t even make it past February before giving up. Whether it’s losing a few holiday pounds, adding more fitness to our routine, or spending more time with family & friends, the key is to set smaller, achievable goals – gain one new positive habit. For instance, instead of setting a goal to lose 20 lbs, which is a large and vague goal, set a small achievable goal such as eliminating carbs from one meal per day, or another small daily behavior that is easy to incorporate. The same can apply to business goals, such as setting aside 30 minutes say on a weekend morning to read a book on how others have achieved goals similar to yours. Or researching business strategies you can apply in your business. Making your short term behaviors line up with your long term goals is the hidden secret.
We’re now starting a new decade, is there a better time to make tweaks to your lifestyle that will help you achieve your goals? You don’t need to achieve the big scary goal this year–but resolve to take a small step every day, week or month toward achieving it. You will be surprised how fast your momentum will pick up when you’re consistent.
When I first started in business, I wish I had someone to consult with on my goals. That is why I’ve chosen to share my business knowledge as a franchise consultant and coach. If you find that you are setting goals, but are unsure how to get started, I would like to encourage you to speak to a franchise consultant and take steps to meet those new year’s resolutions. Make 2020 the year you take action!
